Inclusive Training Unit for Students in Disability Situation (CFIESH)

The President of the University of Lomé, Professor Dodzi Komla KOKOROKO, issued Order No. 001/UL/P/SG/ DRH/2019 of January 10, 2019 creating the Inclusive Training Unit for Students with Disabilities (CFIESH). This decree aims to ensure quality training for students with disabilities and to promote their social integration within the university community.

CFIESH mission

CFIESH’s mission is to lead university policy in terms of “inclusive and supportive training” for students with visual, hearing and physical disabilities and engine. She works to create an environment favorable to the development of these students and their full integration into university life.

Objectives of the Cell

The creation of CFIESH demonstrates the University of Lomé’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to all students, regardless of their disability . By implementing appropriate support measures, the University wishes to remove barriers that could hinder the academic success and personal development of students with disabilities.

CFIESH services

The Inclusive Training Unit for Students with Disabilities (CFIESH) has the following main responsibilities:

  • Welcome and advise students for their registration;
  • Facilitate the socio-educational integration of disabled students in the faculties, schools and institutes of the University of Lomé;
  • Adapt teaching units to students with disabilities from different establishments at the University of Lomé;
  • Adapt the tutorials and practical work to students with disabilities from different teaching units;
  • Accommodate and manage evaluations of students with disabilities according to the specific provisions linked to each type of disability;
  • Translate course materials into sign language for hearing-impaired students;
  • Transcribe course materials and exam papers into Braille for blind students;
  • Ensure the correction of copies of the blind, deaf, etc. ;
  • Support students with disabilities in their research;
  • Implement a writing assistance mechanism for physically disabled students who are unable to write themselves;
  • Prepare and deliver sign language lessons as a free teaching unit (free EU);
  • Offer Braille refreshers to visually impaired students;
  • Progressively integrate students with disabilities into the university’s cultural and sporting activities.

Commitment of the Presidency for Inclusion of Students with Disabilities

The Presidency of the University of Lomé is resolutely committed to supporting students with disabilities so that they implement their different potential in their university education. She is thus committed to defending, promoting and protecting the rights of people with disabilities on the Lomé university campus in the different areas of student life by pushing back the boundaries of disability with them.

Ensuring Social Justice and Equal Opportunities

The supervision of students with disabilities at the University of Lomé reflects the need to ensure social justice and equality opportunities in the training given to a group of learners from diverse backgrounds, while being aware of the educational needs of specific groups. Guaranteeing equity within the UL means succeeding in transmitting education, knowledge and skills to all to build a better society.

Accessibility of University Infrastructures

The University of Lomé strives to be a framework adapted to all members of its community. It is making a significant effort to integrate accessibility standards into all buildings, in particular by providing access ramps to administrative blocks and classrooms, and by adapting seating areas and toilets for people with disabilities.< /span>

The University of Lomé also implements systems allowing the circulation and orientation of users of university space in the field of road construction.

Evolution of the CFIESH in the Department< /span>

Finally, the University of Lomé plans to establish the Inclusive Training Unit for Students with Disabilities (CFIESH) into a Department of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FSHS), thus demonstrating its lasting commitment to the inclusion of students with disabilities.
