RESEARCH STRATEGY

A Doctoral School (ED) is a federation of research structures (Teams, Laboratories, Centers, Institutes) brought together around doctoral training projects covering one or more scientific fields. It brings together university research structures, doctors and doctoral students in sufficient numbers to create a community.

Current situation of Doctoral Schools at the University of Lomé

There is no official ED at the University of Lomé (UL) but there are 33 doctoral training structures spread across all areas of training at UL. However, the University of Lomé has created a committee to set up EDs whose work is in progress.

UL’s vision and commitment to research

It is based on the vision that “By 2030, By strengthening research structures, clearly defined and assumed accountability of stakeholders, the integration of research and innovation in the socio-economic environment, economic and ecological, and the effective involvement of all partners: The University of Lomé contributes to the development of a Togolese society whose prosperity is based on traditional knowledge and modern scientific knowledge and which uses products from of science, technology and innovation as a lever for the emergence of the country for sustainable development.”

In order to achieve its noblest objectives, the University of Lomé is resolutely committed to a rational, ambitious and realistic development strategy, guided by results-based management.

UL research policy and ambitions

UL’s research policy aims to strengthen areas of excellence, develop new and innovative research, often at the boundaries of disciplines, and increase responsiveness and synergy between research themes. The strategy in the service of this ambition is, on the one hand, to establish effective and legitimate research governance in its decisions and to propose, on the other hand, a structuring of research according to strong axes which feed of the dense capillarity of research carried out at the scale of each University Research Structure.
