Centres des Oeuvres Universitaires de Lomé (COUL)

The COUL is a central service of the University of Lomé. It is created by decision No. 95/MENR. CAB of August 27, 1999.

Initially called “Centre National des Œuvres Universitaires (CNOU)”, it became “Centre des Œuvres Universitaires de Lomé (COUL)” in 2004, by decree No. 0018/UL/CP/2004 of October 22, 2004.

 

The COUL’s missions are to:
  • provide accommodation for students,
  • ensure the good health of the university community,
  • ensure the catering of members of the university community,
  • promote and develop the practice of different sporting disciplines, on the one hand, and coordinate the artistic and cultural activities of the various student clubs and associations, on the other hand,
  • lobby socio-cultural institutions, economic operators and partners of the University of Lomé for the promotion of academic and social works.

Service organization

The COUL is headed by a director assisted by a deputy director.

It has seven (7) divisions:

The Preventive Medicine Division

Its mission is to ensure the good health of the university community and is responsible for:

to carry out systematic analyzes and medical examinations for new students ,

to carry out the health check of the staff of the University of Lome,

to consult and treat the sick,

to organize vaccination, screening and health education,

to manage the pharmacy,

to issue medical certificates.

The Psychosocial Division

The Psychosocial Division’s mission is to assist needy or sick students. She is responsible for:

 welcome and monitor students who are victims of accidents or illnesses,

welcome, listen, advise and follow students in difficulty or in psychological imbalance,

manage the University’s Needy Student Integration Project from Lomé (PIEN-UL),

 provide specialized support for students with disabilities.

The University Sports Division

The University Sports Division’s mission is to develop and promote the practice of sports and Olympic disciplines at the University of Lomé. As such, she is responsible for:

manage sports facilities and equipment,

facilitate the recruitment of coaches for the different disciplines,

train and supervise the sports teams of the University of Lomé,

organize and supervise university championships,

promote the participation of teams from the University of Lomé in competitions national and international,

detect and promote sporting talents.

The Additional Training Division

The mission of the complementary training division is to ensure the effectiveness of free Teaching Units (UE). As such, she is responsible for:

welcome, inform and manage student registrations on educational offers ‘Free Teaching Units (EU) domiciled at COUL,

 manage internship requests sent to the COUL and organize their progress on the one hand, and facilitate exchanges with other services of the University of Lomé, on the other hand.

The Housing Division

The Housing Division, as its name suggests, provides accommodation for students in university residences.

She ensures the maintenance and availability of infrastructure in university residences.

The Arts and Culture Division

The Division of Arts and Culture is responsible for promoting, monitoring and coordinating the artistic and cultural activities of the various student clubs and associations on campus.

The division supervises artistic and cultural clubs, particularly in seeking funding and providing advisory support. She is in charge of organizing cultural days, festivals and other socio-educational activities.

The University Restaurant

The University Restaurant is the main service responsible for providing catering for the university community.

He designs and offers menus as well as various services related to catering on campus.

As part of its service provision, COUL has developed an important network of strategic and operational partnerships relating to its various areas of intervention. These partnerships intervene according to the needs of the COUL divisions.

Traditionally, Ecobank, Banque Togolaise pour le Commerce et l’Industrie (BTCI), Togo Cellulaire, Togo Telecom, Fan Milk, Voltic, Nescafé, Brasserie du Benin (BB), Saham Assurances, Nsia, Air West Voyage, Orabank, are COUL partner companies; However, depending on the specificities of the services, it is in partnership with other structures whose details and areas of intervention appear in the table below.
