The Lomé University Works Center (COUL) supervises and coordinates the activities of students’ artistic and cultural clubs and associations. One of the objectives of COUL is to promote artistic and cultural talents. He supervises the different groups formed through their artistic, cultural or religious activities. The COUL also organizes cultural days, festivals, conferences, seminars, writing competitions, theatrical performances, dances, film screenings, board games and leisure activities.
Students freely choose to join any club or association that suits them to showcase their artistic and cultural talents. The flagship activity is the organization, at the start of the academic year, of the Cultural Days of the University of Lomé (JoCUL), preceded by the Cultural Return.
Throughout the year, cultural events take place on the purpose-built Bella Bellow stage space opposite the COUL. Among the cultural associations, we can cite the Unesco student Club, the Avenir choir, the Voix des Anges choir of the Faculty of Law, the Red Cross Section of the UL (SCRUL), the UL brass band troop, the Bɔ̀bɔ́bɔ̀ club. . These associations regularly organize theater and slam shows, public speaking competitions, dance and choral singing competitions. Since the 2019 edition of JoCUL, a competition to present doctoral students’ thesis in 180 seconds, called “My thesis in 180 seconds”, has been added at the initiative of the Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) .
